Bye Bye RX-8 in 2011! tear

Reports are indicating the demise of the RX-8 model after 2011. In production for 8years or so, and only 1 refresh so far for the 09 model year, everyone thinks the RX-8 is a goner. It can't meet air quality regulations in Europe, and has a horrible rap sheet in the MPG category makes the Renesis a walking dead man.

On the bright side, we're happy to see the RX-8 bow out to make way for it's Wankel replacement WHEN it comes. We don't think Mazda's just gonna kill the RE, we're holding hope for a replacement zoom zoom RX. Mazda, make it with 2 doors, 2 seats, and the venerable Wankel, and we're ready with the nickels and dimes for a down payment!

BTW: Offer it in yellow and I'm sold!

Just rolling over to Subway today for a Chicken Sandwich and I was instantly in shock at what I'm seeing with my own two eyes. Having spotted only one other specimen of it's kind in the wild on the 5FWY a couple years back, I was lucky to have my cheesy cell phone with me to snap two photos of this very interesting 1st Generation Mazda RX-7. No, this probably wasn't one of those Mariah Verts (those had working trunks) put out in the 80's, but more of a "homemade conversion". It was a nice cool 70* degrees today, I wonder why the owner didn't s\put the top down for some drop top cruising... Was this yours??!!

Rumormill: Mazda RX-7 concept headed to Tokyo Motor Show?

Ever since Mazda revived its Wankel rotary program in 2004 with the RX-8, the internet rumormill has constantly been abuzz with reports of a proper two-door RX-7 variant. The latest such rumor comes by way of Japanese magazine Best Car (via JDM-centric website 7Tune.com), which indicates the new sportscar has a 55% chance of making an appearance at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show in October.

We understand that Mazda's continual development of its rotary engine technology is likely to bring a displacement boost from 1.3- to 1.6-liters for the next RX model – whatever and whenever that may be – along with the seemingly contradictory qualities of more power, cleaner emissions and lower fuel consumption.

Naturally, Best Car provides a rendering of the supposed RX-7 to go along with the speculation of an October debut. Drawing inspiration from the expressive styling language from Mazda's recent concept cars along with a hearty dose of the happy-go-lucky expression of the current Mazda3. We'll see if there's any truth to this report in, oh, about three months.
